Lisa came to Alaska in 1978 with an MA in anthropology and a hunger for the Alaska wilderness. She had guided whitewater raft trips in California for ECHO, led their Alaska trips, and then met Bob, who had fresh ideas of starting his own guiding business. Lisa’s introduction to birding came in the form of a 51-day “date” with Bob to conduct a Peregrine Falcon survey on the Colville River on Alaska’s north slope in 1983. In addition to leading tours, Lisa was the organizational drive behind WBA for the 27 years that she and Bob were at the helm. Her experience and insights continue to be important to the success of our tours and she remains an integral part of the WBA team. Like Bob, Lisa is very much looking forward to having more time for the pursuit of her other interests, which include cultural anthropology, cooking, travel, yoga, and birding, of all things!
“Bob and Lisa, I have to tell you that I cannot imagine anyone doing a better job than you did. You make a great team and are outstanding teachers. I learned a lot from both of you. I am still amazed at how quickly you turned a group of strangers into a compatible, well-functioning unit. Thank you for an outstanding trip.” D.P., Alderson, WV
