BARROW IN SPRING
Birding Focused
June 15-17
3 days - $2,500 from Anchorage

Birders head to Barrow in the spring for several reasons: the chance to see all four species of eiders; to look for arctic specialties like Snowy Owl, Yellow-billed Loon and Buff-breasted Sandpiper; and to experience the cacophony of displaying shorebirds competing to pass on their genes during the brief Arctic summer – just to name a few. Of course, the possibility of seeing a polar bear and birding in the midnight sun are top attractions as well. Follow the most intrepid avian breeders to the farthest north community in the U.S., where the 24-hour sunlight of mid-June thaws the tundra in fast forward, ice and snow rapidly giving way to an eruption of tundra plants and insects just as the birds arrive to breed.

Notes. The price includes: round trip flights between Anchorage and Barrow; lodging, breakfasts and ground transportation in Barrow; one off-road tour to Point Barrow; WBA guide. You are responsible for your lunches and dinners in Barrow, which we’ll get at the grocery store (lunches) and local restaurants (dinners). You are also responsible for your Anchorage lodging, meals and other Anchorage arrangements. The trip begins and ends at the Anchorage airport. The flight departs for Barrow on Day 1 at about 6 AM, arriving 10:30 after stops in Fairbanks and Prudhoe Bay. We depart Barrow on Day 3 around 8 PM, arriving in Anchorage approximately 11 PM. Price is based on double occupancy. Single supplement is $170 ($85/ night).
