BARROW FALL BIRDING - ROSS'S GULL MIGRATION
Birding Focused
October 5-7
3 days - $2,500 from Anchorage

We’re delighted to offer a fall Barrow trip in an effort to observe the southwesterly migration of Ross’s Gulls along the coastline at this farthest north point in the United States. We will explore the road system by van and the beaches in town to watch for this hard-to-find pink gull, which spends its life in the remote Arctic; intercepting its migration is the best way to reliably see it. We’ve also planned for two off-road outings to Point Barrow to maximize our chances of seeing Ross’s Gulls as well as any other species that may be around at this time of year, such as Snowy Owls and Polar Bears. With the climate warming, it will be interesting to see what else we may find.

Notes. The price includes: round trip flights between Anchorage and Barrow; lodging, breakfasts and ground transportation in Barrow; two off-road tours to Point Barrow (vs. one on the spring trip); WBA guide. You are responsible for your lunches and dinners in Barrow, which we’ll get at the grocery store (lunches) and local restaurants (dinners). You are also responsible for your Anchorage lodging, meals and other Anchorage arrangements. The trip begins and ends at the Anchorage airport. The flight departs for Barrow on Day 1 at about 6 AM, arriving 10:30 after stops in Fairbanks and Prudhoe Bay. We depart Barrow on Day 3 around 8 PM, arriving in Anchorage approximately 11 PM. Price is based on double occupancy. Single supplement is $170 ($85/ night).

Read Aaron Lang's 2011 Trip Report for an example of what you might see.
