WALES/LOPP LAGOON PADDLE TRIP with Scott Weidensaul!
Birding Focused
July 27 - August 1
6 days - $2,375 from Anchorage

NEWS FLASH! We are delighted to announce that our friend Scott Weidensaul (author of Living on the Wind, Ghost with Trembling Wings, and newly released Of a Feather: A Brief History of American Birding) will be joining us on this trip. Just prior to the paddle trip, we’ll be in Wales for a writing workshop with community and other participants, put on by our friends Catherine and Joe Senungetuk. On July 27, following the workshop, we’ll start our paddle trip. We plan to paddle around the lagoon to camp, bird and hike the various habitats around this remarkable ecosystem and see what we can find on this exploratory trip. Wales is the dividing point between the Bering and Chukchi seas, with Lopp Lagoon just north of the village. Lopp Lagoon holds myriad possibilities for excellent birding with its coastal, wetland, upland and estuarine habitats, yet the area has been seriously under-birded. We may be the first group of birders to explore Lopp Lagoon’s backcountry. We’ll travel by canoe and kayak, camping and birding for several days. Lopp Lagoon is Wales’ “back yard”; we’ll be visiting by permission from the village.

(All meals are provided.)

For more information on the writing workshop, contact Catherine at nursecate@aol.com.
